Finding/applying for rental housing

I have attempted to move in to a new appartment after just getting in town for work. I am having an issue with the property manager refusing to acmnowledge, a mold or moldew smell in a cupboarder under the sink. I think it is likely mold, my girlfriend and j noticed it as soon as we took possession of the property. We were probably overly trusting and took the keys and also signed the lease and gave a first months rent along with deposit.

As an Oakland native, I’m especially fond of the Bay Area, which is why I’ve been living in the same in-law unit in the Glenview district of Oakland since 1993 – twenty-one years and no regrets! Yet a less than a year ago I was served a 60-day notice to vacate the in-law unit I had been renteing, the byproduct of a loophole in Oakland’s housing laws: Three units or fewer with owner living onsite = no rent control (if owner lives off-site, then rent control is in effect).

We moved into our place a year ago, there were several issues like kitchen drawers missing or nailed shut. There are wiring issues, mold in our bathroom, the toilet is constantly leaking and now we are all sick. Ny 18 month old has bronchitis now. Code enforcement gave our original landlord 21 code violations. Instead of fixing anything our landlord sold the property and now the new landlords know about the violations and they have also not fixed anything. We desperately need to move into a new place, but will need help with the moving costs. Do I call a lawyer?

After 5 long years of renting from a large apartment complex owned by a very large corporation, my family and I spent the holidays packing. In august of 2012 I had moved from one side of Coralaire Apts., to a larger 2 bd apt., in the same complex. I have been living in a residence hotel for seniors for 8 miserable years. Repairs that were promised were never done. They enter frequently into the dwelling but no improvements have been made. People have been threatened when they want to express their disgust with the management but were told if you don't like go elsewhere.

The response of the apartment management to my request for two more months reasonable accommodation and a doctor's letter (validating Lyme and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and the complication of fatigue in making a quick move) was as follows:

I came home to two notices, both clearly stating that the manager, assistant manager, or head maintenance will be doing an initial inspection on the 8th in two days. My move out date is not until 2/9.
