Well I have a leak in the roof in my laundry room which is a new adddition they added before I rented, anyways I touched by the leak and the dry wall just gave way, and I noticed mold. So I called a roofer to come out to tell me the exact damage and cost because my landlord would just sent a maintance guy and patch it , which I can tell they have done before. The roofer told me the whole roof where the new additions are had to be replaced. I still havent called my landlord yet because I had a feeling the materials used on roof weren't with code so I called the local agency and a gentle man looked it up on the computer, and informed me there should be no new additions to home, because no permits were gave or inspections. Well I told him there was new additions added to home, he told me he would be contacting the owner and we probally be contacted by an inspector soon. I know when inspector comes out that it will not pass, I've worked in construction long enough I know when things are't up to code. So, know you see my perdicament here I've not told the owner I contacted the coding department or about leak yet I was just checking because I knew there would be a promblem and I wanted to know what my options where. I will stop paying rent because as soon as the city inspector comes out it tells me its not up to code, I know we will have to move, I really don't have the cash to move right know and I have to young children. Can the city just throw us out uif it fails? And shouldn't the owner have to reimburse 2yrs rent plus deposit for illegaling renting a house to me thatwas not up to code.I try talking to lawyers here but they don't give free consiltations our they don't deal with tenants just the owners.i'm figuring I probally have at least a month before they say we have to vacate. I'm in desperate need of advice of my options and rights here, our I fear my family will homeless.
