Small Town Love

On April 1, 2008, the moratorium on rent increases was lifted in East Palo Alto, paving the way for Page Mill Properties to enforce their rent increases on their tenants in the community. According to Page Mill, these rent increases range anywhere from 0-47%, and averaging about 9%. However, some tenants report a double rent increase. The City of East Palo Alto and the tenants, with the help of organizations like Peninsula Interfaith Action, Youth United for Community Action, and Community Legal Services of East Palo Alto are united in making sure that people are not displaced. This is a struggle for space, by people within their limited space. It is not yet over.
