I rented an apt in a new complex close to my office. AC unit leaked into my unit destroying a piece of carpet. Management would not do anything to cure the problem but put a dehumidifier in unit using my electricity and intruding for over three weeks. They decided they fixed the problem however husband and i got sick from the wet carpeting that was never really dried out. I called building owners to yell to rip up area of carpet and finally they did to find black mold under carpet and along carpet tac strips. They destroyed evidence took off air filter and exposed the mold to go throughtout the apt. I had to replace filter myself as I noticed three days later it was never replaced. They agreed to let us move to a like unit but in order to do this they wanted me to sign my legal rights not to sue them. They would not pay to move us and we have not been able to move alot of furniture into the unit because of the problem. We now have storage issues with paying to store my property monthly because of them. The mgnt harasses us and does not communcate with us..The managmeent company will not ever return a call and the building owners don't want to hear. They then agreed to replace my carpet only because the pattern is out of date. BUT want us to physicall move anything on the carpet so their vendor does not have to. I advised them of medical issues that preclude my self and spouse from this and they got a phone call from Deot of Fair houseing asking them to provide help to us for this. Their attorney sent me a letter to sign stating that neither the management or the bldg or the vendor is responsible for anything they break..its my problem. I refuse to sign this form they will not replace the carpet and expect me to pay full price for this place. they will not provide any rent reduction and refuse to reimburse me for the air filter they neglected to replace.
I sent the Health department a letter asking for help, the better business bureau etc..so far they are not budging
