OMG! DO NOT RENT from Barry Blue Junior/Blue Properties! I went to view the apartment, noticed that there was no smoke detector (which is required by CA Building Code) and told them they needed to put one in before I signed the lease. They took 2 months to put a $10 smoke detector in. Then, once I moved in, I found out that the heater was broken (which is illegal according to CA Civil Code to rent out an apartment without a working heater). It took maintenance 6 months to fix the damn heater (7 different trips out to my apartment before they could get it fixed). By the way, they use a plumber to fix all heating and electrical issues! They are cheap and will fight you on fixing anything. They expect you to live like a caveman! Don't even bother calling Barry Blue, the manager....he NEVER answers his phone or returns his messages. He lies to you and tells you to go on their website and fill out a maintenance form and it will be taken care of! Nobody checks their website. The only way to get anything done is to call poor Javier directly (the maintenance guy) and bug him for weeks until he gets so sick of hearing from you that he comes out.

The final straw was when I noticed mold on all of my shoes, backpacks, purses, pillows, suitcases, etc in the bedroom/closet. I had found a mold inspection report done on the apartment right next door to me in which it stated that mold was found in the walls, baseboards, closets, carpet, etc in the bedroom of the apartment right next door. (You can find this mold inspection report by typing in "1821 s freeman st, oceanside, ca" into google and read it for yourself). I called and requested a mold inspection report and the next day, my rental agreement was terminated by them. They KNOW that the mold is in the walls and are intentionally putting people's health at risk, which is just disgusting! When I moved out and moved my furniture away from the walls, I found black mold all over the walls and they told me that you are not supposed to have furniture up against walls (which by the way, there was a few inch clearance between the furniture and the wall...it's nearly impossible to have furniture directly against a wall since the baseboards force the furniture out a few inches). When I pointed the mold out to them during the inspection, they told me not to worry about it and it would be taken care of with painting! So they basically admitted that they were going to just paint right over it and not mitigate the problem. I guarantee if they ripped out the wall, there is mold all over it! They also told me that I was growing the mold in my apartment and that if I left my windows open all the time, I wouldn't have a problem. It was a bottom floor apartment for goodness sake! Why would I leave the windows open all the time, when I work full time and have a life?!

P.S. the other side of the complex is all infested with cockroaches and my side (the south facing side) is infested with mold. My next door neighbor and her next door neighbor all had black mold on their walls. My upstairs neighbor also had mold in his bathroom. It's disgusting how these people expect their tenants to live!

Please, find another apartment complex to rent from. You will go through a living hell...just like I did if you decide to rent from them.
