Private Landlord -- No Rent Control

I am writing to share my view of the La Mirage situation in Ridgecrest. As talked about by other tenants and posted on your news page, the residents of La Mirage are the latest victims of McConville and his associated scammers. I have lived in La Mirage since 2003 and have dutifully paid rent, but like my neighbors will soon be asked to leave. Losing 300 rental units in a town of 25,000 is significant. A recent article in our local paper quoted one family as having to leave town due to not being able to find a place to live. Luckily, the new law signed into effect by President Obama will grant many of us relief, but what about the 90+ properties (according to the Kern County Recorder/Assessor) that are already through or in the foreclosure process? What about those families? An elderly neighbor has stated she was notified to be out by July 1st just last week. Clearly this is not in keeping with California or the new federal law? Both the City and County are essentially clueless, and the office managers have been replaced by a single maintenance person who urges us to pay rent lest he not receive a paycheck.
