Private Landlord -- No Rent Control

I moved into an apartment in Jan 2006. From day one, it was a hassle...everyone had storage units and when I asked which one was mine, I was told that I did not get one as I was a single tenant! I found out that my storage was being RENTED out to someone who did NOT live in the building! Then I told the owners and manager about a leak above my unit for almost a year and some months. One night I awakened to water pouring from the ceiling onto my furniture, belongings and soaking the carpet! I was told that I must take cash from the owner as opposed to file through their insurance OR they would fight me on the claim! They did and I won but the day I won, they raised my rent!! Then after a few more years, we had hot water go out for over three days and they would NOT call a plumber - they wanted to use their maintenance guys (no English and no skills) ...When I tried to tell the other tenants in the building through a letter, I was threatened with being told that I would have to leave. Then about two months later, a new couple to the building wanted to have a second HUGE party on a Saturday on the deck that sits above my unit. When I asked the manager to protect me as a tenant and enforce the lease which guarantees my rights to a comfortable living space and NO alcohol in the community areas, I was given a 60 day notice to vacate!!! Slumlords, you bet.
