Rent increases

Lia

I just wanted to state how ridiculous the prices in the San Francisco renting market is. Someone that is living on their own is basically having to pay 1600 for a small 1 bedroom. Most of these places do not even constitute as a 1 bedroom and also are illegal-landlord just takes cash and or it is a room that was built without permits. Some are so hidious and dirty with extremly old appliances and electrical sockets.Who can one complain to?

Nicole

We (Husband & 3 Kids) have lived in our place for 2 years. Where do I begin, First we pay an huge amount of rent for a small 2 bedroom place (1850.00). The place has no air conditioning, No Dish Washer, the bathrooms have mold and the toilet is pulling up from the floor and the carpets are disgusting and to top it off the landlord has refused to give us the mailbox.

I live in a low income senior complex in West Sacramento. We have 120 units here and this is a tax credit property.
This complex is new, opened in late April, early May 2008.

We were told when we signed our lease that this complex would be a fully gated community after all apts. were rented. Months ago a community letter was sent out to us stating that we were now a full complex. We waited and waited for gates. We got 2 side gates, but none to the main entrance.

Extreme rent increases each year virtually utilizing most of our retirement income from Social Security. No consideration of other cost of living increases such as Gasoline, Insurance, Health Care (especially prescription medicines), and Food.

David

Dear Governor S.,

My name is David Lee Frater. I am a disabled 55 year old man who has been disabled for the last 6 years. I used to be a principal systems analyst, the rank above a senior systems analyst, for all of my adult life after college before I became disabled. I worked, and worked very hard for nearly 30 years before becoming disabled.

Sandy

I am a wheel chair user on a fixed income who cannot find nor afford to move to affordable handicapped accessible housing in my neighborhood - the westside.

The renters rebate has been the one source of small help in my continually rising rental cost.

Patricia

I recently was forced out of my apt. after 14+ yrs. by a new owner of my previous apt.! He raised my rent $600.00 more knowing that I am forced to live on a fixed income (S.S. Disability)which hardly paid my rent previously. And even if I was able to pay that increase, he insisted I get rid of my three small dogs..one who had grown up in this apt. (she is 15)& was never a problem to anyone! I have no family so these were/are my "children." For all 14+ years I was told I was the best tenant the building ever had.
