I have lived in the same apartment for 14 yrs, & have never had any remodeling done, while the other 4 units have all had new flooring & bath & kitchen fixtures. My new landlord wants to raise my rent from $750/mo to $860/mo, so that my rent is the same as the other apartments. CAN HE DO THIS WITHOUT MAKING THE SAME UPGRADES TO MY PLACE AS THE OTHER APARTMENTS? I need help! I can't afford the rent increase.

Recently our county has been invaded by a for-profit housing corporation known as Inspire Communities. It is trying to buy up mobile home parks, then raise the rents unfairly. We are trying to get our representatives to enact a rent stabilization ordinance but are meeting with much resistance-- ours is a strong property-owners rights county--and now are faced with the daunting task of mounting the initiative process. We need help! William Constantine (atty- Santa Cruz0) has said he will write a "universal" ordinance that can be adapted by any community, but will need appx $5,000. to do so.

Hi my name is Abigail. I've been a Property manager for 6 years. I was first a Tenant and after 9 months and 6 managers I applied for the job. Last year it was clear that the management company was overcharging. They refused to refund all monies owed and forced me into continuing as though nothing was wrong not just my property but quite a few in LA. It made me physically sick causing me high blood pressure and deep depression. I voiced my disagreement in the company's position. The began treating me quite differently trying to write me up for silly things.

As an Oakland native, I’m especially fond of the Bay Area, which is why I’ve been living in the same in-law unit in the Glenview district of Oakland since 1993 – twenty-one years and no regrets! Yet a less than a year ago I was served a 60-day notice to vacate the in-law unit I had been renteing, the byproduct of a loophole in Oakland’s housing laws: Three units or fewer with owner living onsite = no rent control (if owner lives off-site, then rent control is in effect).

The building was sold in December of 2014. The previous owner sold our private personal information to this so-called new owner without our permission and the new owner came in and raised our rent more than 50-60% in 30 days. All then tenants have resided in this building over a year. The new owner harassed me and made my life difficult when I asked him to give us 60 days for the rent increase. I've had to put a restraining order against him and his relatives. Now, I'm paying almost double for the apartment which is filtered with terminates and a host of other issues.

Hi I a re tented a single family home up stairs 2 bed 1 bath with owner living downstairs. The rent is 1750$ + utilities 100$ With 1 year lease agreement. After moving with in a week I got message from owner to not use AC as they will get high power bill. And 2 months later I got mail that they are gonna increase rent immediately to 2150 saying the utilities bill increased. As per agreement it's only 100$ but asking for 400$ in utilities, breaking the lease agreement.

After 15 years of renting in the same location our landlord is threatening us with eviction proceedings if we do not get rid of our family pet (a single cat). We got the cat 4 months ago as a service animal after my daughters therapist suggested it could be helpful to combat her increasing anxiety.
