Fair Housing Foundation

The Fair Housing Foundation runs a Fair Housing Program that addresses housing discrimination claims; informs landlords and tenants of their rights and duties; helps tenants with habitability issues and evictions, among other tenancy-related problems; and offers referrals to other agencies.

Southern California Housing Rights Center

The Housing Rights Center (HRC) offers an array of services:

1) Housing Discrimination Complaint Investigation

  • HRC investigates allegations of housing discrimination under the fair housing laws
  • Case resolution can include mediation, conciliation, a referral to state and federal administrative agencies, or referral to HRC’s Litigation Department 

2) Landlord-Tenant Counseling (in-person or through hotline)

Isla Vista Tenants Union

We are a student run organization that primarily focuses on tenant education and legal counseling.

Isla Vista Tenants Union challenges and transforms unjust housing conditions and housing policies through empowerment-based education, leadership development, and grassroots community organizing. 

San Francisco Rent Board

The San Francisco Rent Ordinance (SF Administrative Code, Chapter 37) was enacted effective June 13, 1979 by the Board Of Supervisors and signed by the Mayor as emergency legislation to alleviate the city's housing crisis. 
 
The Rent Board has the authority to:
1) Promulgate Rules and Regulations to effectuate the purposes of the Rent Ordinance
2) Hire staff, including administrative law judges
3) Conduct rental arbitration, or mediation hearings.
 

Inquilinos Unidos

Inquilinos Unidos (United Tenants) empowers low-income Los Angeles tenants through community organizing, education and advocacy. We also work on legislative efforts, tenant rights training and strategy planning, and class action or taxpayer lawsuits to address the most egregious housing violations.

IU offers Tenant Resource Clinics at its office on Mondays from 4:00 to 6:30 pm, as well as walk-in services on Wednesday and Friday from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. Tenants may also call the IU office and leave a message for call-back assistance.
