Affordable housing

Californians Battle Skyrocketing Rents

Nearly a decade after the housing market’s collapse, California’s real estate market has bounced back — and then some. The median price for a two-bedroom rental in San Francisco, depending on what report is used, ranges from roughly $3,000 a month to well over $4,000. The median home-sale price in the state, says the California Association of Realtors, is over $536,000.

Urban Habitat (Oakland)

Urban Habitat believes that every Bay Area resident has the right to safe, decent, and affordable housing. Current housing policies foster chronic housing insecurity in many communities, and contribute to gentrification, displacement, and the suburbanization of poverty. We advance a regional housing justice agenda that

1) Confronts this phenomenon and supports coalitions locally while developing a regional housing justice agenda and movement

2) Supports the development of policies that further housing rights as an essential element of stable and prosperous communities

South Pasadena Tenants Union

We are in support of Rent Control and Just Cause Eviction for South Pasadena. We aim to spread awareness, support, and education for tenants in our city.

Pasadena Tenants Union

We are a grassroots movement founded in November 2016 by tenants and homeowners. We are a membership body of volunteers and have no paid staff. We believe housing is a human right and renters have an inalienable right to safe, decent, stable, and affordable housing. We advocate for renter rights and tenant protections from displacement caused by gentrification.
