California Coalition for Rural Housing

Formed in 1976 following a farmworker housing conference, CCRH is one of the oldest state low-income housing coalitions in the country. Through advocacy, organizing, research, and technical assistance, our goal is to make the case for rural housing improvement and strengthen the capacity of the nonprofit and public sectors to provide affordable housing and related facilities.

Voluntary Legal Services Program of Northern California (VLSP)

The Volunteer Legal Services Program of Northern California assists low-income clients by referring them to volunteer attorneys for direct representation, and by assisting self-represented parties at our legal clinics. VLSP examines cases within five areas:

1) Debt Collection Defense and Bankruptcy Law -- serves clients who need assistance with legal problems associated with the collection of debts they owe; provides advice and assistance with cleaning up credit reports, disputing debts, and evaluating clients for the appropriateness of filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.

Me and my 5 year old son had a week left on our stay at the homeless shelter. I had to find a place asap. I drove by my old apartment complex and noticed unit #1 was vacant. We got the apt and moved in. Same landlord so I felt ok even though the apt was in terrible shape. It needed a make over. My landlord instructed me to contact the maintenance man and have him start repairs. 11 days in.....nothing. So I wrote out a letter stating what needed to be done asap. He fixed the broken tile in tub and replaced my broken bedroom window. He tried fixing other windows with glue. Bad idea.

In June of 2012, my three children and i moved into a 4 vedroom rental unit with the assistance of the government (section 8).

What started as a happy beginning, quickly became one of the hardest struggle ive ever encountered.

Ilene Pinkie

My name is Ilene mother of two children, daughter 4, son 6, my spouse and my service dog. My current situation/status as of 02/20/2015, Homeless! After 5 long years of renting from a large apartment complex owned by a very large corporation, my family and I spent the holidays packing. In august of 2012 I had moved from one side of Coralaire Apts., to a larger 2 bd apt., in the same complex. I had noticed off the back that something just wasn't right, the smell, the discoloration of areas around and under kitchen sinks and certain walls.
