Project Sentinel: Fremont Office

Project Sentinel assists individuals with housing problems such as discrimination, mortgage foreclosure & delinquency, rental issues including repairs, deposits, privacy, dispute resolution, home buyer education, post purchase education and reverse mortgages. 

Fremont Office, Housing Discrimination:

Project Sentinel's Fair Housing Center provides education and counseling to community members, housing providers, and tenants about fair housing laws. We also investigate complaints and advocate for those who have experienced housing discrimination.

My apartment was flooded on June 19. The landlord did nothing to fix the problem until June 26. I had renter's insurance that paid $5000 in hotels. There were weeks where the landlord did no corrective work. On July 8, the apt manager called to say I could move in on July 9. I called the movers to schedule moving my things back. The earliest they could move my things back is July 14. The landlord is refusing to pay the additional hotel because my apartment is ready. They took over two months to do work that should have only taken three weeks.

Hi I a re tented a single family home up stairs 2 bed 1 bath with owner living downstairs. The rent is 1750$ + utilities 100$ With 1 year lease agreement. After moving with in a week I got message from owner to not use AC as they will get high power bill. And 2 months later I got mail that they are gonna increase rent immediately to 2150 saying the utilities bill increased. As per agreement it's only 100$ but asking for 400$ in utilities, breaking the lease agreement.

I was on disability leave from my employer, and not paid for over six weeks, in October 2013, by my employer and its authorized disability insurance payor due to errors on their part. This caused me to be unable to pay my rent for October 2013.

I HAVE BEEN LIVING HERE FOR 17 YEARS AND SINCE DAY 1 I HAVE BEEN REPORTING 3 VEHICLE AND ON 4/29/14 RECIVED NOTICE THAT ON 5/1/14 THEY WILL TOW MY VEHICLES BECUASE WE ARE ONLY ALLOWED 2. I AM MARRIED WITH 2 CHILDREN AND MY SON WILL BE DRIVING IN A MONTH I NEED MY 3 RD CAR, THIS IS A FAMILY PARK,IF THEY DID NOT WANT US TO RAISE KIDS HERE THEN IT SHOULD BE A SENIOR PARK ONLY. THIS IS UNFAIR AFTER 17 YEARS THEY DECIDE TO CHANGE THE RULES.

The program also provides confidential counseling and investigation of housing discrimination complaints, referrals for legal assistance, and community education on fair housing laws.
