Private Landlord -- No Rent Control

Our rental home was sold to an investor in New York a little more than a year ago. We have been living in the home now 2 1/2 years. We have never missed a rental payment and we made minor repairs to the property when needed. However, when the dishwasher quit working during the Thanksgiving holidays, we submitted a request to to the property management company to have the dishwasher repaired.

Instead of repairing the dishwasher we received a notice to vacate the property without an explanation. We feel we should have part of our rental payment returned because we are not getting the full use of the home's amenities.

In a phone conversation with the property management company, we were told that we had done nothing wrong but the owner wants to move some his relatives into the property. I feel not only does the owner owe us a partial rent rebate but also a relocation allowance.
