Prospective tenants in Novato who are turned away by landlords solely because they have Section 8 vouchers won’t have legal protection from the city — at least not yet.
Guidelines that county officials hope will be adopted by each of Marin’s cities and towns were struck down by the Novato City Council on Tuesday, citing concerns that the scope of those regulations may have been too broad.
I am a permanantly disabled woman w/chronic mental & physical disabilities, who has been unfaily terminated by the SHRA, and my rights, (disability, woman's, housing & VAWA), were violated! Now homeless w/o la live in Aide, unable to afford rent, w/serious health problems, etc., I have had a hard time fighting against this agency, and cI annot find/afford legal help. I cannot believe how this agency has just thrown me out to the wolves, leaving me to die, and the laws for disabled people ignored, threatening my survival? Am I going to be just another victim of discrimination?

Postings like these may soon be illegal in Berkeley.

“You’re in luck, Ellie. It’s still available and I’m the manager, Craig Perry. “The rent is $1,900 a month,” Craig adds. “When we run your credit report, will we see that you can afford that?”
“Oh, yes,” replies Ellie. “I work part-time and just got a Section 8 housing voucher so I can afford up to—”

It’s a barrier to many who can’t afford Sebastopol’s median rent of approximately $2,000.
