Our Tenant Advocacy Project offers eviction prevention legal services. The goal is to find a resolution before it reaches a point of eviction or homelessness. This project is currently undergoing some structural changes and is not operational. In the meantime, tenants should use our Lawyer Referral service if they need assistance. Tenants can also check the JDC website for updates on the status of the Tenant Advocacy project.

 

S.F. City Attorney Blasts Obama Administration's Rejection of Anti-Gentrification Plan

The recent decision by federal housing officials to reject a local measure aimed at easing the effects of San Francisco’s housing crisis on low-income and minority residents will further displace some of the city’s most vulnerable communities, the city’s top lawyer said.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) denial of San Francisco’s neighborhood preference plan “is wrong as a matter of law and public policy,” City Attorney Dennis Herrera wrote in a letter to HUD Secretary Julián Castro on Thursday.

Investigators in New York will probe the resurgence of a dangerous housing finance practice that was historically used to target low-income black families who dreamed of owning their own home, the state’s Department of Financial Services announced Monday.

Investigators have sent subpoenas to at least four separate companies that are helping drive a boom in a long-dormant alternative to a traditional mortgage, the Wall Street Journal reports.
