AB 2343 To Prevent Homelessness

Did you know that tenants only have THREE DAYS to pay a rent debt if their landlord has given them an eviction notice? Most tenants are living paycheck to paycheck. With half giving over 30% of their income in rent each month, homelessness is one eviction notice away.

It's a matter of basic fairness to pass California State Assembly Bill 2343, introduced by Assemblymember David Chiu (D-San Francisco). Tenants would have 10 days instead of three to pay back rent or correct a claim that they have violated their lease. The bill also gives California tenants more time to respond to an unlawful detainer (UD) eviction lawsiut--14 days instead of 5 to respond to a UD. It will also add protections from landlord retaliation.

We expect a floor vote in the Assembly BEFORE May 31.  Please send a letter of support today (form below)!
